--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to let everyone know that Juan Carlos had his surgery yesterday. His blood was clean of infection yesterday and Dr. Parres operated immediately. He felt that the surgery was a huge success. He was able to take small pieces of skin from all over Juan's body to cover the burns that were still open. If the grafting is successful (which the doctor feels it will be) and no new infection sets in, Juan will be released from the hospital on Monday morning, the 23rd. Juan is far from out of the woods yet. Please pray for his continued healing. His family is going to have to learn to take care of Juan. He will have to remain under a mosquito net for some time, his family will have to be diligent about hand washing, etc. However, we are all very, very hopeful and feel that God has brought Juan very, very far on this journey.
Please pray for Juan's continued healing and strengthening of his body and mind.
You have all been more than generous and I can not thank you enough. It has been a humbling experience for me to see the donations roll in to help Juan.
Many Blessings to you all!! Kim

Updated Letter from JJ...continue to PRAY!
This is the latest update from Nicaragua on Juan's accident, from JJ Yemma Please read.
Hi to all, I am writing this evening with a heavy heart. My new friend Juan Carlos Mairena(actually I had been saying hi to him for years because he is always out fishing at the beachy out back) almost 4 months ago he had 65% of all his skin blown off his body after accidentally coming in contact with the high tension power lines. 14000 volts. The hospital that he was taken to originally in Managua actually used him as a practice patient by medical students getting there medical degrees. They basically didnt think he would live. After they did serious grating over all his body maybe only 5% stuck and the rest got super infected and had to be scrapped off. Then they sent him to his house. You can imagine in Nicaragua your typical dirt floor home chickens everywhere. He was told to keep it all open. Then about 15 days after the accident a missionary couple Doctor Bill and his paramedic wife Christy were lead to Juan where they immediately realized they where in over their heads. Other doctor friends they were seeking advice from told them they should just leave him because there was no hope. They prayed hard about it and decided they felt like they heard the Lord say he will Live. This couple spent 60 hours a week with Juan changing 2 times a day all of his whole bodies worth of bandages. Anyway 2 months later and some pretty major improvements considering how he was, Then I was brought on the scene. The doctors time and money(they came to Nic with 25k to serve Nicaragua and her people and Juan consumed a lot of it)had come to an end. At this point they had already changed antibiotics a number of times and he was still having fevers every 3 days or so. I made some calls and we were off to Vivian Pellas(one of the best hospital in Central America). I had no idea what we were getting into. I figured maybe 10k. Now we are almost 2 weeks into him being in the hospital and weve already spent 11500$ and I talked with the hospital today and they have a 5200$ bill and growing. Plus I will still owe the doctors over 5k for all the work they have done in surgeries to clean him up. Anyway, we have already raised just under 13k in donations. Pretty amazing I know. I would have never though it possible. So Im getting the word even further out there to see if Juans story moves your hearts to help him. Juan has a wife and a 4 year old daughter named Angelita. If you would like to help there is no donation to small. We have a paypal set up and are paying for all the bills down here with my states credit card and paying it down in the states as the money comes in. Thanks to all of you that have helped out. This has been amazing to see how generous all of you have been. Lets help Juan hold his daughter again....... Blessings to all.......JJ

Help for JUAN
Hi to all, I am writing this in regards to a horrible situation that has captured my heart over the last week. Juan Carlos Mairena is his name. Three months ago on the 25th of January Juan was working cutting bricks at night time here near Popoyo, Nicaragua. He went to connect the power to a light they were going to use to work at night. When he hit the high tension electrical line, 14000 volts went through his body and he burst into flames falling to the ground unconscious. He woke up in the hospital in Managua (a public hospital that pretty much almost killed him) the next day and spent the next 3 weeks there. They did all kinds of skin grafts and only a few actually held due to the lack of experience and poor medical training. He had 65% of his body damaged by 3rd degree burns. The energy from the 1400 volts had exploded out his foot. It was a miracle he was alive. The hospital irrationally sent him home and it was then that Doctor Bill and his wife Christy, whom are both paramedics, took over like angels to help Juan. Doctors Bill and Christy have been in Nicaragua for a few months on a self-supported full service medical mission helping many locals around Popoyo. After observing and attending to Juan they soon realized the situation was way over their heads. After spending 60 hour weeks with Juan using all they knew and changing full body wrap gauze 2 times a day not to mention dealing with serious infection…. they began to earnestly seek the Lord. There was no more they could do. Juan over the next Two months would show a lot of improvement but still had over 10% of his body with 3rd degree burns and bone still showing. They had already switched antibiotics a few times and he was coming down with horrid fevers every 5 days. Doctor Bill told me when I first met up with them a week ago that Juan only had a 5% survival rate but he knew with God on their sides his percentage went way up. Doctor Bill and his wife’s time were nearing its end after a lengthy six month mission, not one moment of their time was in vain.
It was right at this time that my friend John told me I had to come and meet Juan and see how bad this situation was. As soon as I saw him I realized I had seen him for years, fishing from the shore at the beach break with the hugest smile ever. I knew then that I had to help in any way that I could. Two days later after a few phone calls he was out of his dirt floor home where chickens and all the other animals were running around all over him. I had originally thought (I’m no specialist) that around 5k would be enough to get something done for him. One phone call and the next day we had Juan on his way to the best hospital in Managua, Vivian Pellas Metropolitano. There I met up with the same plastic surgeon (Dr.Pares) that stitched up my 5 year old daughter some 4 years ago when she split her head open on a counter. Dr. Pares was hopeful that he would be able to skin graft him right up and that it wouldn’t take more than 8 days to have him on his way home again.
Well, in a perfect world maybe. It has now been 5 days and $5,500.00 later and Juan still has an infection in his blood. Things are going really well though. They have done 3 scrubbings on him by putting him to sleep then taking a scrub brush and basically scraping all the dead ecoli contaminated skin off. The reason Dr. Pares couldn’t do the skin grafts was because Juan is to skinny and malnourished from the infections right now to do the surgery. So after today sitting and talking with Dr. Pares and getting a really good feel for what still needs to be done both Doctors involved Dr. Bill and Dr. Pares feel Juan will live to hold his little 4 year daughter Angelita again. The reason that I’m writing all of this is because Juan needs our help in order for all the treatment to happen. We will need around 15k more to pull this thing off. As of right now Juan will be at the Hospital until this Saturday and then they will release him into a small Hospice where he will be cared for by a burn care specialist nurse that also does muscle therapy for around 10 days. This will be where he will have to eat and put on a few extra pounds so Dr. Pares can have a place to pull the skin grafts from. When that happens he will do 8 more days in the Hospital then go home and in Jesus name will be walking and laughing after all he has been through. If your heart is at all moved by this I, JJ Yemma, am asking for your help. If any of you donate you can have a 10% discount on your next trip to Nicaragua with PSL. Thank you all........God Bless. Please do not be offended or obligated to send money. I wouldn’t be doing it if I had any other options. My wife Kim has a pay pal account and can take all donations in the states. We also have a blog set up at www.helpforjuan.blogspot.com. You can click on the paypal button below to donate today.Right now we are just going to max out our credit cards and see what happens. Also if you might know someone who might like to help that would be awesome. There is no amount to small.........Thank you for just reading through all that.......
